Accountant
The City of Alcoa is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will perform complex professional, administrative, and technical accounting functions, assist with the preparation of the City’s annual budget, manage capital assets, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations. We are looking for someone who not only excels in accounting but also has the potential and desire to grow into a leadership or managerial role over time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing the City’s annual budget
- Manage capital assets, including tracking depreciation schedules and preparing asset reports
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations (GAAFR, GAAP, GASB)
- Collaborate with Payroll, Accounts Payable, and the Business Office to develop and train on accounting procedures
- Analyze accounting records and prepare accurate financial and statistical statements
- Demonstrate a willingness to grow into a leadership role and manage accounting teams in the future
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex accounting records
- Proficiency in preparing accurate financial and statistical reports
- Familiarity with budgetary accounting and reporting systems
- Knowledge of GAAFR, GAAP, and GASB is preferred
- Leadership potential and a desire to grow into a managerial role
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Certification as a Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO) or ability to obtain certification within 24 months of employment
