Greenway Trail Closure

The City of Alcoa advises pedestrians who use the Greenway Trail that a section of the trail between the City of Alcoa Service Center on Universal Street to Hunt Road has been closed since Monday, September 23, 2024. Starting Monday, February 24, 2025, the demolition and reconstruction of the bridges will begin. The closed section is outlined on the map in red. The city advises that no traffic other than construction traffic will be allowed through this section of the trail, as it will be inherently dangerous to attempt to travel through the active construction area.
In an effort to continue allowing pedestrian traffic through that area, the Public Works Department has paved a new trail that will serve as an alternate route in that section of the Greenway. The alternate route is highlighted in green on the map.
The City of Alcoa is asking pedestrians and cyclists who use the Greenway Trail to seek alternative routes in this area or use the detour route until the Public Works Department has completed the bridge repair project. Please also note that there will be signage near the trail closure, as well as barricades to block traffic from using the closed route.
This section of trail is expected to be back open to the public by July of 2025.
