The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has informed the City of Alcoa that construction would be starting on a project to upgrade old towers and install new in TVA’s existing easement beginning as early as Thursday, June 1. The segment of work includes clearing trees and installing stone construction entrances at various locations to access the TVA easement following Middlesettlements Road and West Bessemer Street continuing through the roundabout at East Edison Street to the Duncan substation. This is the first phase of a multiphase project occurring in Blount County. Work located near the City of Alcoa Mountain Bike Trail off Wright Road will cause closures of the trail for the duration of the project in that location. The initial preparation will last about two weeks with line crews following in late June to install the new line.
Motorists should allow additional travel time and use extra caution when traveling through this area as crews will be present.
For more information or questions, please contact the City of Alcoa at (865) 380-4800 to be directed to a TVA project representative.
