Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Working knowledge of the methods, techniques, and tools involved in general construction; • Skilled in the operation and general maintenance of heavy and medium weight, tracked and rubber tired construction equipment such as dozers, scrapers, packers, front-end loader, motor graders, and backhoes; • Knowledge of the use and care of picks, shovels, mowers, automotive equipment, small tractors, etc.; • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting and walking for long periods of time and frequently under adverse field conditions; • Knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs to assigned equipment; • Knowledge of applicable safety precautions; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; • Ability to work both independently and with others, and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public; • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written communications; • Ability to respond to verbal inquiries from management, staff, and customers; • Ability to effectively present information verbally and/or in writing; • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; • Ability to learn new procedures and to apply the same to a variety of tasks; • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely in areas of congested equipment, vehicular, and/or pedestrian traffic. |
