[Alcoa, Tenn.] –The City of Alcoa continues to pursue proactive ways to keep our community clean, and one of those ways includes our recycling services offered through our Public Works and Engineering Department (PW&E). We offer recycling pick-up to Alcoa residents on Wednesdays and Fridays, every other week depending on the neighborhood.
The PW&E foresees continued annual growth in recycling involvement—now increased to over 70%. Alcoa has increased community involvement and extended the life of the shared landfill by 25 years through our recycling efforts alone. Currently during days of pick-up, Waste Connections, an outside vendor located in Knoxville, uses an automated recycling pick-up truck to gather all recyclable materials from the citizens of Alcoa. Please refer to the following guidelines for proper recycling bin placement during your pick-up day:
- Your recycling bin MUST be at least 2-3 feet away from your garbage bin.
- Your recycling or garbage bin MUST be at least 2-3 feet away from a mailbox, light pole, or fence.
- Your car MUST NOT be obstructing the bins in any way.
These guidelines are in place to mandate proper protocol enforcement and to ensure no damage occurs to your recycling bin. Please adhere to these guidelines when placing your recycling bin out for your pick-up day. Visual infographics have also been added to the website under the Sanitation and Recycling Services tab.
