The City of Alcoa Electric Department’s Duncan Substation experienced an outage this morning due to a failure in TVA’s metering equipment. The protective relaying inside the substation performed as designed and caused the power to be interrupted.
The outage occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. and affected 6,278 customers within the Alcoa City limits and some outlying areas of Blount County. Included in the affected area were the City of Alcoa Service Center and Municipal Building, thus causing the Outage Management System and the telephone systems to not function properly. All power was restored at 5:20 a.m.
