City of Alcoa Police Chief David Carswell announced today that an 11-year-old Maryville child is in critical condition as a result of a vehicle crash on Calderwood Street.
At 5:08 p.m. today, officers responded to the crash on Calderwood Street at Gill Street. An investigation revealed that a 29-year-old Maryville man was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on Calderwood Street. A 76-year-old Rockford man was driving a 1998 Dodge Durango eastbound on Gill Street when the vehicles collided in the intersection.
The child was critically injured as a result of the crash and was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center by Rural Metro Ambulance. The driver of the suburban was uninjured, and the driver of the Durango was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The investigation is continuing and names will be released pending notification of family members.
