Property Tax

The City of Alcoa Finance Department is responsible for the collection of all city property taxes and personal property taxes. The City tax year runs from January 1 to December 31 of the current year.

Due Dates & Penalties

Taxes are due and payable without interest from September 1st through September 30th of the current tax year. If payment is not received by the close of business September 30th, interest begins accruing October 1st at the rate of 2% per month. If September 30th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, a mailed payment will be honored if postmarked September 30th or earlier; or if deposited during the weekend in the night deposit box located in the parking lot of the Municipal Building. Taxpayers will be sent a delinquent tax bill as a reminder after the billing date has passed. Property owners who have unpaid delinquent taxes, will receive a final notice after which delinquent tax accounts will be turned over to the Blount County Clerk and Master's Office for collection.

Calculate Your Property Tax

The City of Alcoa annually reconsiders its tax rate as it deliberates budget needs. You can compute your tax amount to see how tax increases/decreases will affect you. First, you need to find your notice from the county tax assessor's office to see the appraisal value of your property. To compute the assessed value, you will multiply the appraisal amount by 25% if your property is residential, 30% if your property is commercial personal property, and 40% if your property is commercial. Next you will take the assessed value of your property and divide it by $100 and then multiply that by the tax rate.
